You own what you make. CraftingUK never takes copyright from you; it only hosts your work under the terms you choose.
Your posts and photos
You keep full copyright in the text and photos you post. By posting, you grant CraftingUK a non-exclusive licence to display them on this site, in feeds, in social previews and in generated share cards, for as long as the post is live. Delete the post and that licence ends.
Patterns
Pattern files may only be uploaded by their designer. When you upload, you tick a declaration confirming that you designed the pattern, that you own the copyright, and that it doesn't copy anyone else's. We record your display name as the copyright owner, the date, and the licence you picked, and show that alongside the download.
Licences you can choose
- Free for personal use
- Others may make the item for themselves and as gifts. No selling the pattern or finished items.
- Personal use, finished items may be sold
- Others may sell finished items with credit to you. The pattern itself may not be redistributed.
- CC BY-NC 4.0
- Share and adapt for non-commercial use, with credit. Full licence text.
- CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
- Share and adapt for non-commercial use, with credit, under the same licence. Full licence text.
- CC BY 4.0
- Anyone may share, adapt and use commercially, with credit. Full licence text.
- CC0 / Public domain
- You waive all rights. Anyone may do anything with it. Full text.
Whatever the licence, please credit the designer when you show off what you made from their pattern. Whether people may sell finished items depends on the licence chosen. In UK law a knitting or crochet pattern is protected as a literary and/or artistic work; the designer's permission is what governs how it may be copied or distributed.
Photos that aren't yours
If you don't have a photo, we generate a card for you, so you never need to borrow one. If you do use a stock photo it must be under a free-to-use licence and credited. Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay licences and Creative Commons licences are fine; "found it on Google" is not.
Takedown requests
If you believe someone has uploaded your pattern, photo or text without permission, please email copyright@craftinguk.com with: a link to the post, a link to or copy of your original work, and a statement that you are the rights holder or acting for them. We'll normally hide the content within 48 hours of a credible request and contact the uploader. Logged-in members can also use the "Report" link on any post and choose "Copyright".
Removing your own work
You can delete any of your posts and pattern files at any time from the post's edit page. Files are removed from the server immediately. Copies people already downloaded remain with them under the licence that was in force when they downloaded.
